SWOT Anaysis

I will now describe my swot analysis which is my strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats, for my current career at university so far.

My main strengths as a skills is that I can memories programs on a computer, and know all the features on the toolbar. This helps aid me in the creativity aspect as I can design and edit images using Graphics software etc like Adobe Photoshop, and memories where all the drawing and image tools are, for example the shape tool etc.

My other strengths are that I am fast paced learner and learn new content quickly and can cope well and handle high pressure situations and always try hard to hand in work on time and to a high standard. I do this by doing work as soon it is given too me this one of the many personal qualities that I posses, this particularly quality enables me to have less pressure while at university as would have done the work on time.

I have many experiences which will aid in my time at university, for example as studied at college some of the Modules I studied are similar to university e.g. SSDAM which is similar to fundamentals of design as they are both database design orientated, this will give me slight advantage when studying the module as I will know some of the content for example how to use on Microsoft Access Primary and foreign keys.

This is also part my array of knowledge, other included programming and debugging with C++ using the IDE Dev C++ and other IDES, using MS project as project management tool for planing and organising projects this includes tasks and important milestones, and add them as I complete each individual activity relating to the project e.g. the project plan.

I will user many resources on this course, as this will aid me with my own learning, as well as lectures, for example books will help me learner additional information on a particular topic or entire module. for example fundamentals of design I will be using a book on databases to help me learn more about how to use access and SQL coding for building queries, tables etc.

I require support on this course mainly when It comes to essay writing as I have a tendency to spell words wrong and my grammar does not always make sense, thus I use Ms word to make the changes using the built in spell checker. I tend to structure my work well and use using titles and subtitles and I prefer using paragraphs.
 
My main weaknesses on my personal qualities are that I sometimes get stuck on on software development or programming, as I am not a very logical thinker, so in theory it can take me longer to hard code and memorise the code of by heart, although I am strong at coding on Visual basic and SQL, as they require less logical thinking in general.

This also relates to my skills as I am not a very strong programmer. my other weakness Is that I am not a very good listener and find It hard to carry out instructions from a lecture, and I also forget to take notes on occasion during lessons, and even when I do takes notes they can sometimes go over my head and thus I forget what I have learnt meaning I need to go over them to remember.

Regarding  my experiences, my main weakness are that I mainly need to become more organised as I sometimes leave work late and forget, to do it however I do now setup and work timetable and do work on time and as soon as it is given to me, this has improved vastly over the last year especially as at college I handed in the vast majority of my work in on time.

My weakness for my own knowledge is that I find it hard to take some information in and remember it, also as I did not do that well in School, this means that until I studied at college I struggled with my maths and English skills, thus I found the first year of my college course hard, as it used maths to work out algorithms for paths, however my skills have improved as I obtained Adult numeracy and literacy qualifications.

For my own resources I have a habit of not using all the resources that are provided to me by university for example books, as mainly prefer using the Internet for my sources for research, however this not great for programming, as normally the entire programs code is given to you as an example and unless you understand the program, as you will just will be copying it and it will be meanless and this will committing plagiarism unless the sources are referenced.

I may require support when writing my essays and doing assignment for spelling and grammar check and possibly also to check if the layout and subject is appropriate. My essay are also too long and may be of topic and I am improving this by by using Microsoft office word to check spelling grammar, and essay structure.

University life will offer me at lot for the future especially in the long term, as this will improve my interpersonal skills like speaking and listening and asking questions which is useful at job interviews, and presentations, the other skills I will obtain are people skills ie. I will be much better at making friends and at a much faster rate, these skills will help me obtain a job in the future.

Other challenges for myself include the poor ability to write as my handwriting is not very neat and is very hard to read and understand for teacher and this may mean I lose marks in written exams like English or maths, in maths my numbers are hard to read as well.
